Our recent family service was awesome in many ways! Ian did a great job leading the service. The music team was excellent in bringing the adults and children together in worship. The children had three really good songs to share with the church & the Major family did a humorous skit revealing the importance of the Fruit of the Holy spirit in our family lives.
The message shared was a comparison between natural fruit and The fruit of the Holy Spirit. Here are the notes from that message. I encourage you to use these for your benefit and spiritual growth.
Enjoying The Fruit of the Spirit
• Galatians 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Fruit begins from a Seed
Natural - It starts with a seed from God
o A fruit seed comes from God – Genesis 1:1, 11 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.
Spiritual - We accept Jesus into our heart as a seed and allow the Holy Spirit to change us
o Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Seed produces life
Natural - The seed goes to good ground and is watered, receives sunlight and grows
Spiritual - We read our bible and pray everyday and we grow
Fruit grows
Natural - The fruit tree grows and then the fruit is produced.
Spiritual - We become more like Jesus and the fruit of the Holy Spirit is produced.
Fruit is picked
Natural - The fruit is picked and taken to the table.
Spiritual - We ask God for the Fruit of the Holy Spirit.
o Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Hands washed
Natural – We wash our Hands before eating.
Spiritual - We have a clean heart and live pure.
o Psalm 24 3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
Fruit prepared to eat
Natural - We prepare the fruit by peeling it.
Spiritual - We exercise and practice the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
Fruit enjoyed
Natural - We eat the fruit – It taste good
Spiritual - We enjoy living with the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives
